I have always always wanted to get my hands on some of the silver and china that I know exists somewhere in my family. I just got back from visiting my mom, grandma, and aunt in Florida, and I knew that a large majority was stashed at my aunt's house.
She wanted to clean out her garage and I wanted to snag all those goodies, so one afternoon we got to it! Her garage looks a million times better and I filled up a box full of treasures, look what I got:
A little glass footed bowl
A lone salad plate
Four bowls
Some Lenox, including...
A serving bowl
A nut/candy bowl
and a pair of candle sticks
And finally, the one thing I have been wanting more than anything...
A silverware set in a wood box {service for 12}
The box is very scratched so I am going to sand and refinish it. I'm going to get rid of the mahogany stain I don't really care for and redo it with a deep brown almost black espresso finish.
All of the silver is beautifully aged, some pieces need to be polished, but others are perfect.
And I adore the rose pattern. This belonged to my great-grandmother Rosaria and my middle name is Rose, so the pattern is very meaningful - not to mention stunning!
Yay for you! My mother has two sets of silver and I oh-so-badly want one of them. They are both from my grandma and great grandma. Your silver is just beautiful and the sentiment behind it lovely.
ReplyDeletethe silver service being a treasure be careful to wash it by hand only. i have popped a couple of pieces of mine in the dishwasher and over time they will get pitted...i am one of those people who love to use even the prettiest things i own on a regular basis...what's the point of having it, if you don't ever get to enjoy using it? (or maybe only a couple of times a year?) so i used to use my silver dinnerware as everyday...not anymore...they are kept in a box very similar to the one you have...and i bought myself a beautiful set of stainless for everyday. it comes out of the dishwasher looking as good as the day i bought it! congrats on the the new pretties!
ReplyDeletejealous! I love all of those pieces!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you got your hands on the goods! I especially love the silverware set.

So sad we don't live close enough to come over and try out that awesome new set of flatware!
ReplyDeleteI just love everything that you inherited!! It means so much more when it has been in the family and treasured pieces to certain family members.
ReplyDeleteMy Mom and MIL are in the process of passing things down to us because they know that E and I are very sentimental and want family heirlooms. It made me feel special that my MIL said she knows it will be safe in our home then other family members.
Enjoy your treasures!!
