Dining Room Ideas

Well last night we met with our Loan Officer to fill out all the paperwork.  Now we have to wait 2-3 weeks for our approval to go through.

On Monday, I have a conference call set up to go over our wiring choices (phone and cable jacks, and alarm).  The living room and three bedrooms will get cable, there will be a phone in the living room and my husband's office, and we are taking the basic alarm system package + a carbon monoxide detector.

Onto my dining room ideas.  Our house doesn't have a formal dining room, it is just the space between the living room and kitchen.  I'm going to continue the black/white/aqua color palate throughout the whole main floor since it is really just one big room.  I love a banquette and I think using one will really maximize the space.

I love how all three inspiration pictures use furniture from different sources, much prettier than a dining set.

So to pull this look off for my home I am planning on buying this coventry bench from Ballard Designs (again, i know)

I love this Sunbrella fabric, the color is spot on and you can wipe up any spills!,  but it won't be available when we move into the house in the winter.  Later this summer I will have to decide if I am going to buy it and find a way to store it for a few months or wait until we move and take my chances on the fabric selection available then.

I'd like to find the table and chairs second hand.  I see the table having a stained top and painted base with the chairs painted to match.  I could use my current chairs and give them a fresh coat of paint, it just depends on what I find.

On a non house related note, we are driving through the night to Maine for my cousins wedding.  My family loves to ask "what's new?" and I can't wait to share our news rather than my standard reply of "nothing".

Have a great weekend!

Living Room Ideas

It's been less than a week since we selected our new home and I've already decorated most of it in my head :)  I've been driving my hubby nuts!

Our current apartment living room is just blah.  Black leather couch and love seat, black coffee table, puny little TV stand, glass and chrome side tables, and not much else.

I'm going with a black/white/aqua color scheme for this room and the rest of the main floor as well.

I'll be keeping our couches and coffee table and that will be it for black furniture.  Our TV stand is going to get a nice upgrade.  I've selected the Reston Corner Media Cabinet from Ballard Designs for now.

I'll also be getting rid of our side tables and looking for a replacement on craigslist.  I'd like to find some wood tables with pretty curved legs that I can paint a creamy white.

The one window in the room will be a beautiful large box bay and I am so in love with this fabric for the curtains:

Also, because there is only one window in the room, I think a mirror like this would be awesome:

Can you tell I love Ballard?

To break up all this black and white, I'm going to add in lots of aqua accents.  I already have a few accessories in storage, and I adore the print on this pillow:

Hmm, what else is there?  We have an appt. to select our floors on June 30th, and I think we'll be going with a dark, wide-plank hardwood.  My hubby and I disagree on flooring a bit, so I'm not 100% sure what we'll end up with.  The walls will be light but not white.  I'd love to hear what you think, I've decorated in my head a bunch of time, but this will be my first time executing my ideas.

We Bought a House!

Yesterday My husband and I went to contract on our very first home - we are so excited!!  We are buying into a brand new town home/condo community in Loudoun County, VA.

 our home site

I've decided it was time to get back in blogging so I could chronicle this exciting process.  I can't wait to share our selections for the kitchen, bathrooms, and all the other little details in the next few months.  After that, I'll be getting into some decorating and DIY projects.

I guess you could consider this a semi-custom home.  There are a ton of items we get to select and customize, but there are also quite a few that we cannot change until after we are living in the house.

So far we have made all of our upgrade selections as far as the level of materials we are going to use and at the end of the month we will be choosing the exact colors and finishes.  We went all out and chose just about every upgrade possible - gourmet kitchen with granite and stainless steel appliances, a 1/2 bathroom on the main floor,  a jetted soaking tub in the master bathroom and a whole bunch more.

We are scheduled to break ground in August and move in December.  Thanks for coming along for the ride!
